Health and Safety Policy

Hull Stingrays Community Foundation, recognises and accepts its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, its Regulations and other relevant legislation and will take all reasonably practical steps to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees and volunteers within the Hull Stingrays Community Foundation.

Responsibility to ensure:

  1. Proper consideration and resourcing of health and safety issues within the Charity planning and implementation processes.
  2. The establishment of appropriate organisational structures and a culture which supports risk management and secures the full participation of all members of the organisation.
  3. The implementation of a systematic approach to the identification of risks and the measures to manage them.
  4. Recognition at all levels that good management control is essential for the prevention of accidents, ill health and dangerous occurrences.
  5. Adequate arrangements at all levels of the organisation to review performance and learn from experience.

Responsibility to ensure:

  1. To co-operate fully with management. This will require commitment from all members of Hull Stingrays Community Foundation, members; volunteers; and salaried staff.
  2. To follow the safety rules and regulations laid down by Hull Stingrays Community Foundation.
  3. To take reasonable care of their own health and safety and the safety of others who may be affected by their work activities.
  4. To undertake any training in health and safety matters as appropriate.
  5. To report any hazardous conditions to their immediate supervisor.
This policy will be regularly monitored to ensure that its objectives are achieved. It will be reviewed and if necessary revised in the light of legislative or organisational changes.

Young People and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy

Hull Stingrays Community Foundation recognises The Children Act 1989, The protection of Children Act 1999, The Protection of Vulnerable Adults Scheme 2004, the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Order 2002. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation is fully committed to safeguarding the well being of its members. All members should show respect and understanding for the rights, safety and welfare of others, and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the Charity.

Hull Stingrays Community Foundation believes that every activity associated with the Charity should be a positive and enjoyable part of children's/vulnerable adult's lives and to achieve this have the following aims:

  1. All Hull Stingrays Community Foundation staff, volunteers, helpers and officials working with young people should read and adhere to the Hull Stingrays Community Foundation Young People and Vulnerable Adults Protection policy. The Charity will follow the guidance of the policy in the event of any concerns or allegations.
  2. The Charity will ensure that anyone working with young people and vulnerable adults undertake a screening procedure, namely a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.
  3. All staff and volunteers are made aware of the Charity's Code/s of Conduct
  4. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation, where applicable, will use qualified coaches particularly during activities, which may involve close contact with children or vulnerable adults.
  5. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation will identify a person whose role it is to deal with any issues concerning child protection and vulnerable adults. Anyone with concerns in respect to children or vulnerable adults should then contact that person.
  6. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation actively encourages staff and volunteers to 'whistle blow' in instances when in their opinion witness any breach of the Hull Stingrays Community Foundation's Young People and Vulnerable Adults Protection Policy.
  7. All staff and volunteers must undertake any training appropriate to Young People and Vulnerable Adults Protection.
  8. The club will adopt and regularly review a Health and Safety Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy
  9. The club will review this policy annually.


Equal Opportunities Policy

The Charity recognises its obligation under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Equal Pay Act 1970, the Race Relations Act 1976, the Disabled Persons Employment Act 1958 and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The Charity is committed to ensuring fairness in all aspects of its work.

The Charity will not accept any form of discrimination, direct or indirect, against any member of staff.

The Charity will not tolerate discrimination or harassment by any of its staff and any acts of deliberate discrimination will be dealt with as a disciplinary matter.

Statement of Intent

This Policy is designed to ensure that Equal Opportunities Practice is reflected throughout Hull Stingrays Community Foundation's activities.

Responsibility

Hull Stingrays Community Foundation expects professional standards of behaviour from all of its Trustees and staff. All staff are responsible for implementing Hull Stingrays Community Foundation's Equal Opportunities Policy and must act at all times in accordance with it and equal opportunities legislation. The Trustees are responsible for all Employer's Responsibilities and for ensuring the overall implementation of the Policy.

Staff/Volunteers

Training and development will be available to all employees in order to perform their role. Employees will be given equal opportunities to progress within the Charity and, where appropriate, may be offered training to meet their full potential. If an Employee wishes to change their work pattern, Hull Stingrays Community Foundation will consider the request taking into account their statutory rights and the needs of the Charity. The Charity will actively encourage any member of staff who feels they have been discriminated against or have been the subject of harassment, to bring this to the attention of management without fear of reprisal.

Equal Opportunities in Staff Recruitment and Selection

Hull Stingrays Community Foundation has an open policy of recruitment for all potential employees. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation recognises its responsibility to ensure that no Job Applicant or Employee receives less favourable treatment. All Job Vacancies will be advertised. The Equal Opportunities Policy will be made available to all Job Applicants and to Employees. Application Forms will be used to ensure that the same information is obtained from all Job Candidates. Person Specifications detailing essential selection criteria will be drawn up for all vacant posts to enhance objective selection and will be used to shortlist Candidates. Interviews will be structured to obtain information, which is relevant to the selection criteria. A record will be made of all interviews. A positive attempt will be made to provide necessary facilities for anyone who requires special work arrangements as a result of disability. Hull Stingrays Community Foundation will ensure that staff involved in interviewing and selection are given training to avoid discrimination in these processes.

Review

The Trustees will consider annually what proactive steps the charity is able to take to implement its Equal Opportunities Policy.
